Our Curriculum
We cover a wide range of topics in Reception to give children a wide and strong foundation to their future learning. Our topics are based around books and we look at a range of fiction and non-fiction books. Please see the links below for further information.
Progression of skills
It is amazing to see just how much progress children can make in the Reception year. It is the year where many children start to read independently for the first time, write short sentences and become more able to express themselves using well formed sentences. The following document outlines the progression of skills in each area of learning throughout the Reception year.

PE
PE is taught by our very own PE coach, Mr Kemp, and is on a Monday afternoon. On Wednesdays the children come to school wearing their PE kit which is a black tracksuit, white t-shirt and suitable trainers or pumps. During warm weather, children are welcome to wear black shorts.
Forest School
We are incredibly lucky to have our own woodland here at Moorcroft Wood. Reception children take part in regular Forest School sessions. These sessions enable children to experience the outdoors, become aware of nature, nurture their social skills, provide an opportunity to enhance imaginative play and aid language acquisition. Children are provided with water proof over suits and wellies to wear during sessions. All sessions are delivered by a level 3 qualified Forest school practitioner.
